According to research by Cable.co.uk, which sought to find out the cost of 1GB of data across 233 countries of the world. It has been clearified that top five (5) of the 10 most expensive countries to buy mobile data are in sub-sahara Africa.
The Top Five Countries in Africa Are;

As highlighted above, Saint Helena has the most expensive data rate in Africa with average of $41.06 per 1GB. Followed by Sà o Tomé and Principle where 1GB Mobile data cost $29.49, followed by Botswana which is $15.55, then followed by Togo which is $12.94 and Seychelles which its data plan cost for $12.66.
However, looking at it from the other side, Libya and Ghana lead the continent with the cheapest average cost for 1GB of data at $0.61 each. Meanwhile, despite being the cheapest in Africa, the two countries are still ranked 40th and 41st in the world respectively. The other countries in the continent’s top 5 are Somalia, Morocco and Nigeria with $0.63, $0.69 and $0.61 as their respective average prices for 1GB mobile data plan.
In conclusion, Israel, which has the cheapest average cost of 1GB in the world at $0.04, is 15 times cheaper than Africa’s cheapest plans.
